This is the story of a man who makes a devilish drug. A TV anime adaptation of Manchuria Opium Squad, serialized in Kodansha’s Weekly Young Magazine, was announced on the anime’s official site.
Crime suspense in Manchuria, 1937
Isamu Higata went to Manchuria as a soldier in the Kwantung Army. After losing sight in his right eye on the battlefield, he is abused by his superior in an agricultural volunteer unit. There he discovers poppies being grown for opium.
To save his sick mother, Isamu decides to make the drug. That choice begins to upend both his life and Manchuria’s fate.
Serialization resumes with a new artist
Tsukasa Monma wrote the source story and Shikako provided the original art concept. Tsurushima takes over the manga art from chapter 217 as serialization resumes.
To celebrate, YanMaga Web makes every chapter free from October 5 through 11, offering a chance to catch up before the anime.
