Mecha Samurai, a short anime from TV Tokyo and Plott, will start releasing vertical short videos on YouTube, X, Instagram and TikTok on November 2. Pre-season episode 1 will stream on YouTube from November 20, and the main series is planned to stream on YouTube from spring 2027. TV Tokyo Holdings announced the project on October 27.
Hiroyuki Takei, creator of Shaman King, provides the main character concepts, and Plott handles planning and production. The project is produced by the Mecha Samurai Project, made up of Plott and TV Tokyo. According to the announcement, this is the first time TV Tokyo has joined an anime built around YouTube and other social media.
The story is set in present-day Japan, where gates to another world called Kimon have appeared across the country. Mechanical spirits called Yokai emerge from them and attack people, and an organization of Samurai fights them with Katana, weapons that hold special powers. The hero, Chiaki Kuzumi, wields a Katana that carries the power of the very Yokai he is meant to defeat.
Kentaro Mashiro plays Chiaki Kuzumi, Riona Yamashita plays Sana Fujimiya and Ayumu Mizukami plays Kiyoharu Obana. The description of the teaser trailer, posted the same day on the official YouTube channel, also lists Masaaki Mizunaka in an unnamed role shown as "???".
