Synopsis
In late-sixteenth-century Denmark, the kindhearted King Amlet is accused of treason through a trap set by his brother Claudius and executed. His daughter, Princess Scarlet, grows up haunted by her failure to hear his final words and vows revenge on Claudius, who has taken the throne. At a ball she attempts to assassinate him, but mistakenly drinks poisoned wine prepared for him and loses consciousness. She wakes in the Land of the Dead, where the living and dead coexist. Amlet has become a void, while Claudius is also there, seeking the Neverending Place, where the dead can continue to exist. Pursued by his followers, Scarlet meets Hijiri, an emergency-center nurse from twenty-first-century Japan. Scarlet's determination to take revenge conflicts with Hijiri's wish to stop the killing, yet they travel together toward the Neverending Place in pursuit of Claudius. Along the way she encounters people resisting him, but is captured by his followers.
